F1: Lewis Hamilton Wins at Silverstone for 3-in-a-Row
Sunday, the 2016 Formula 1 British Grand Prix started on a rain soaked circuit, but ended with the Sun shining
Lewis Hamilton, MercedesAMG, posted his 3rd Silverstone victory running. Mr. Hamilton’s team mate Nico Rosberg finished 2nd on the track, but a post-race penalty issued as a result of Mercedes providing him with illegal instructions pushed him to 3rd behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

|4||DANIEL RICCIARDO||RED BULL RACING||+26.211s||12|
|6||SERGIO PEREZ||FORCE INDIA||+76.941s||8|
|7||NICO HULKENBERG||FORCE INDIA||+77.712s||6|
|8||CARLOS SAINZ||TORO ROSSO||+85.858s||4|
|10||DANIIL KVYAT||TORO ROSSO||+92.600s||1|
The opening laps were run behind the safety car after a heavy downpour shortly before the lights went out, but soon there was non-stop action as the track dried.
As Mr. Hamilton led from the beginning, the real racing was between Messrs Rosberg and Verstappen who battled much off the afternoon, less than a sec separated them at the chequered flag.
Daniel Ricciardo came in 4th in the 2nd Red Bull, with Kimi Raikkonen 5th in what was a dismal afternoon for Ferrari. Team-mate Sebastian Vettel finished 5th after picking up a penalty for forcing another car off track.
It was a terrible day for Ferrari coming 5th for Mr. Raikkonen who overtook Sergio Perez’s Force India with 6 laps go. Mr. Vettel retained 9th place by 0.9 sec from Daniel Kvyat once his penalty was applied.
It was a tough day for Williams and McLaren too, with Massa 11th from Jenson Button, and Fernando Alonso 13th after a huge, high-speed spin through the gravel at Abbey, ahead of Valtteri Bottas.
Sauber’s Felipe Nasr and Haas’s Esteban Gutierrez took 15th and 16th as their respective team mates Marcus Ericsson and Romain Grosjean DNF’d.
Mr. Hamilton’s “hat-trick” makes him the 1st 3-in-a-row British Grand Prix winner since Jim Clark in the 60’s, and the gap to points leader Mr. Rosberg is now down 1 pt, or 168 to 167 with the notional seasonal mid-point coming up in Hungary in 2 weeks.
Have a terrific week.
