F1: Lewis Hamilton Chasing Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Sebastian Vettel
MercedesAMG’s Lewis Hamilton’s goal is to set records with his newest F1 car for years to come, that mean he will be running hard to catch Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in his.
Mr. Hamilton is a 4X world champion, and he has been a part of an extended frame of success with MercedesAMG, taking 4 constructors’ titles in the last 4 years, and 3 drivers’ titles.
Mr. Hamilton’s contract with the German team expires at the end of this current season, and although an expected announcement date at the start of the season passed with no news.
Note: I have heard nothing about a contract renewal so far this season. Though in Bahrain he said he sees himself staying at the team for the foreseeable future. That sound like a near term perspective to me.
“My hope for the future is that we continue — continue to grow, excel and always move forwards,” he said. “Obviously, I hope to build our relationship. But I really want to take this team the furthest it has ever been. I want to be part of this journey where Mercedes are the most successful Formula One team in history.
“I want to push it as far as I can, with the lifespan as a driver that I have, that it would take a long, long time for anyone else to catch up. I think it would really upset the Red cars and the Red team, so that’s my goal…”
With just 76 wins compared to Ferrari’s 231 and just 4 constructors’ titles to Ferrari’s 16, it is unlikely Mr. Hamilton will make MercedesAMG the most successful team in F1 during his time. But, a 5th constructors’ title this year will bring MercedesAMG within 1 of Ferrari’s record of 6 consecutive titles between Y’s 1999 and 2004.
So far this year Mr. Hamilton has not been faring well against Ferrari or Red Bull Racing.
F1 returns to action in at this weekend’s Azerbaijan GP in Baku with much focus likely to be on Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, 20 anni, after his clumsy collision with Sebastian Vettel in the closing stages of the epic Chinese GP. Mr. Verstappen has a way of shunting his rivals.
That along with some speculation that Red Bull’s lead driver Daniel Riccardo is about to jump to Ferrari.
