F1: Hamilton Victorious Again in Canada for 3 in a Row
Sunday Lewis Hamilton has won the Canadian Grand Prix, going from Pole to Chequered Flag on a hot and windy day in Montreal
MercedesAMG’s Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix, going from Pole to victory without challenge. Mr. Hamilton was followed by team-mate Valtteri Bottas on the Podium. Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull came in 3rd.
Then Mr. Verstappen saw engine problems 11 laps in became the 3rd racer retired after Carlos Sainz of Toro Rosso and Felipe Massa of Williams, crashed on Turn 3 right off in the race.
Mr. Vettel took some damage to his front wing on the 1st lap and quickly dropped back in the field, taking a pit stop and rejoined at the back of the pack.
Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen lost 2 places when he went off the track, not good start for Ferrari, as he reported suffering balance problems all during the race.
Mr. Bottas took his 1st pit stop on Lap 25, before Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton pitted on Lap 32, for the super soft tires. Mr. Raikkonen pitted and fitted the ultra soft tires.
It was a great day for Mr. Hamilton whose 56th career win came on the track where he got his 1st victory in Y 2007.
“It’s always been a special place for me,” said Mr. Hamilton. “It’s crazy to think after 10 years that I enjoy racing every lap just as I did 10 years ago.”
Mr. Hamilton applauded the work of the team’s leaders and engineers, who have made it a 2-team battle again after Ferrari looked ready to take control of the F1 Championship.
The post-race awards to the top Top 3 were presented by British actor Patrick Stewart.
Mr. Ricciardo drinking champagne from a shoe, was asked by Mr. Stewart drew big laughs when he asked Mr. Riccardo for his other shoe and took a drink from it.
The the 8th round of the series resumes in 2 weeks in Baku, Azerbaijan.
