FLASH: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc post the GP’s fastest lap and won the fans’ driver of the day award, as MercedesAMG recorded most dominant start in F1 history at Baku
MercedesAMG have broken the record for the most successful start to an F1 season as they recorded their 4th 1-2 finish in Baku, with Valtteri Bottas holding off team-mate Lewis Hamilton to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Messrs Bottas and Hamilton are separated by only 1 point.
Mr. Bottas told reporters after the race: “It was actually a tough race. Lewis was putting pressure on me all the time so I am happy to see this Chequered flag and get 1st place. It’s incredible, as a team, the level we’re performing at now.”
Mr. Hamilton also praised the Silver Arrow’s team.
“This is the best start to the season we have ever had,” he said.
“It’s a team effort. Everyone in the factory has worked non-stop and they have come back every season hungry for more.”
The continuation of their perfect start to the season means that MercedesAMG has a points advantage of more than 70 over Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) already. As the team searches for a 6th straight constructors’ title.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished 3rd and made the podium but, on a track where Ferrari showed a pace advantage of over 1.5sec in the practice sessions The Scuderia might just as well finished at the back of the field.
Unless something super happens, the constructors’ championship is out of Ferrari’s reach already. With Mr. Vettel trailing championship leader Mr. Bottas by 35 points, a challenge for the drivers’ title seems a long shot.
F1 now moves on to Barcelona in 2 weeks as the European season gets underway.
Ferrari is the Aristocrat of the automotive sector.
The iconic Italian Supercar manufacturer claimed the title according to the latest Brand Finance Global 500 2019 report launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
HeffX-LTN overall technical outlook for RACE is Bullish across the board, and there is very little resistance here and none above 140.26. All of our Key indicators are Very Bullish in here.
Have a terrific week
