F1: Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Sebastian Vettel Took the Chequered Flag at Bahrain
Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Sebastian Vettel, 30 anni, when from Pole to Chequered Flag Sunday under the lights at the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix in his 200th race start Sunday and a thrilling victory.
With terrific soft tire management, the championship leader took the Chequered Flag only 0.6 secs clear of MercedesAMGs’ Valtteri Bottas who put on the DHS pressure on in the final 10 laps but did not make the mark he sought.
Mr. Bottas’s team mate and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton who started 9th finished 3rd.
Mr. Vettel now leads Mr. Hamilton by 17 points after 2 of the 21 races.
The win under the floodlights was the 49th of Vettel’s Grand Prix career and an unprecedented 4th at the Sakhir desert circuit.
It also made the German driver, who won in Melbourne 2 weeks ago, the 1st Ferrari driver since the iconic Michael Schumacher in Y 2004 to win the 1st two races of a season.
Drama in the pits
Mr. Vettel’s team mate Kimi Raikkonen was brought in to test the soft tire strategy, on a failed left rear change, a pit crew member was injured.
Mr. Raikkonen was given the Green light to exit before his left rear tire had been changed, with the Finn’s car then hitting a mechanic who was taken to hospital with a broken leg, Mr. Raikkonen posted a DNF, else he would have been on the podium with Mr. Vettel.
Mr. Vettel now has maximum points after 2 races leaving the rest to play catch-up ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit next Sunday.
