F1: Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Sebastian Takes the Chequered Flag at Canada
Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Sebastian Vettel cruised to victory at Canadian Grand Prix Sunday, taking championship lead from Lewis Hamilton.
Ferrari champion driver Sebastian Vettel was dominant from lights out to the Chequered Flag and now is just 1 point ahead of rival Lewis Hamilton in the standings.
Mr. Vettel offered memories of Michael Schumacher’s glory years with an straight on, no trouble front-running to post his 50th F1 win.
It was a super race day in Montreal Sunday, with perfect weather, views of the downtown skyline and St Lawrence Seaway, and the Canadian Ferrari lovers who rivaled the Monza tifosi in their celebration of Mr. Vettel’s winning performance.
Now in to the next 2/3rds of the season, the rivalry between Messrs Hamilton and Vettel could not be closer. But Mr. Vettel’s commanding racing was some good cheer for the most avid Ferrari disciples and F1 fans too.
“It was important to open up the gap straight away,” Mr. Vettel said. “This was a great Grand Prix to win.”
It was a significant race as reignited the face-off with Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Vettel is seldom expansive in his post-race emotions, but Sunday in Montreal he was not shy in describing how much the day’s victory meant to him and his Scuderia Team.
Sunday, was his his 50th appearance on the Top step of the podium, and he made it on the 40th anni of the late Gilles Villeneuve’s 1978 win here.
“We showed here that at Ferrari were still alive, still racing,” Mr. Vettel told reporters.
