Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) Kimi Raikkonen set the pace in the 2nd F1 FP2 (practice session) for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Mr. Raikkonen clocked a 1min 12.935 secs at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal to finish 0.215 secs clear of Lewis Hamilton’s MercedesAMG Friday.

Championship leader Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and MBZAMG’s Valtteri Bottas came 3rd and 4rth respectively with the Top 4 separated by 0.375 secs.

The Pirelli’s super-soft was the tire of choice for the early running, before teams turned their attention to the ultra-softs for qualifying simulations.

Mr. Vettel was among the 1st to do his low-fuel run and promptly went quickest, with team-mate Mr. Raikkonen slotting into 2nd.

Mr. Raikkonen then upped it to go fastest, with Mr. Hamilton moving up into 2nd and Mr. Vettel back to 3rd.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came 5th, 0.453 sec off the pace, but his session was curtailed 20 mins early when he stopped on track with a gearbox problem.

The session was Red-flagged while the Mr. Verstappen’s car was recovered from the side of the track between Turns 7 and 8.

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo spent most of the session in the garage with an engine problem.

Felipe Massa came 6th, but he was nearly 7/10’s further back in the Williams, with McLaren’s Fernando Alonso bouncing back from a late start to the session to go 7th at the close.

Esteban Ocon, Daniil Kvyat and Sergio Perez completed the Top 10.

Qualifying Saturday at 1:00p EDT on CNBC and the race Sunday at 2:00p EDT on NBC.
