Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) deficit to MercedesAMG was a big surprise at the Australian Grand Prix weekend, particularly given that The Scuderia ended F1’s 2 weeks of pre-season testing at Barcelona as the clear early favorite.
Down under, 4X champion Sebastian Vettel qualified 3rd, but was more than 7/10’s slower than MercedesAMG’s Polesitter Lewis Hamilton, and dropped to 4th in the race after being passed by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
But, despite the team’s on-track struggles, Mr. Vettel said he had “way less grip” throughout the weekend than in testing at Barcelona, that being evidence of a change in atmosphere and was clear after race, as Mr. Vettel, new teammate Charles Leclerc and team boss Mattia Binotto were quick to admit Ferrari was not as fast as it had expected to be.
Jack Cozens and Ben Anderson join Glenn Freeman analyse Ferrari’s weekend and explain why there is no reason for the team to panic just yet.
