F1: Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) Debuts 2018 F1 Racer
Thursday, Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) unveiled its 2018 F1 racer car, the SF71-H at an event at HQ’s in Maranello, Italy.
After challenging MercedesAMG for the title and fading in Y 2017, high expectations surround the new car as The Scuderia aims to end its 10-year championship drought this season.
It also carries the championship hopes of drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, with Mr. Vettel aiming to beat Lewis Hamilton to a 5th career title this year.
Technical director Mattia Binotto confirmed the new racer features a longer wheelbase than its predecessor as the team looks to extract more high-speed aero performance following a deficit to MercedesAMG’s long-wheelbase W08 last year.
The SF70-H’s distinctive side-pod concept has been evolved into a more aggressive design this year and the rear of the car nipped in around the power unit to aid airflow to the rear.
A center-line cooling arrangement also appears to have been adopted, with a large air-box above the driver’s head.
For the 1st time since Y 2009, the Ferrari features an extensively Red livery following the loss of major sponsor Santander.
The Halo, mandatory this year, has a Red fairing and a Ferrari badge on the front.
The presentation at Maranello came on the same day as MercedesAMG launch at Silverstone.
Testing is about to begin.
The new Ferrari has been packed and sent to the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain where it will complete a filming day Sunday ahead of the 1st day of testing on 26 February.
