Dubawi Shines at Arqana
The first Dubawi yearling to be offered on the opening night of the European yearling sales season lit up the ring at Arqana on Saturday night when purchased for €650,000.
The filly is out of the G1 Beverley D Stakes winner Royal Highness and is a half-sister to G2 winner Free Port Lux, from the family of Dubai World Cup victor Electrocutionist. The winning bid was made by Koji Maeda.
Also much in demand was a New Approach half-brother to the ill-fated dual G2 winner Permian (Teofilo), whose victories included the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Dante as well as a narrow defeat in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris last month. Offered as lot 85, the colt is also a full-brother to the Royal Ascot-placed Second Wave and hails from the outstanding family of the great Miesque. The colt was knocked down to James Crupi and Marco Bozzi for €420,00.
The only two yearlings in the catalogue by Shamardal saw vigorous bidding during the session. The first offered, a grey filly from Ecurie des Monceaux, was purchased by the American buyer Alex Solis and his partner Jason Litt for €450,000. A half-sister to a G3 winner in Canada, the filly is also a half-sister to a Frankel juvenile who impressed on debut in America recently.
An hour later, another daughter of Shamardal was snapped up by MAB Agency for €400,000. Offered by Haras d’Etreham, the filly is out of a half-sister to this season’s Royal Ascot-winning juvenile September, out of the multiple G1 winner Peeping Fawn.
