Dick Durbin is Intentionally Trying to Scuttle DACA Talks
“DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don’t really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military,” President Trump Tweeted Sunday.
“I, as President, want people coming into our Country who are going to help us become strong and great again, people coming in through a system based on MERIT. No more Lotteries!” President Trump said.
The immigration debate involving young undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children and President Trump’s demand for funding to build The Wall on the southern US border is playing out days before a potential government shutdown as soon as 19 January.
The immigration crisis debate is taking place against a backdrop of controversy after President Trump called Haiti, El Salvador and African nations “problem countries” during an Oval Office meeting with Senators.
President Trump denied making a vulgar remark alleged by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) in a Twitter posting Friday.
Senator Dick Durbin, the 2nd-ranking Democrat appears to be intentionally moving to scuttle bi-partisan resolution on the US immigration crisis.
Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) said he still thinks a deal can be struck.
While some members of both parties may want to continue fighting, “that’s not where a lot of the Democrats that I’ve been working with are, that’s not where the Republicans that I’ve been working with are. Where we are is trying to find a real solution,” Senator Gardner said in a TV interview Sunday.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said that he knows personally that President Trump is not biased against Haiti.
“I know personally about his feelings towards Haiti and towards Central America because when I was not a candidate for president and he wasn’t a candidate for president, I went down there on a medical mission trip,” Senator Paul is an ophthalmologist who often travels to other countries to provide eye surgeries, and President Trump has supported and helped finance his medical efforts there.
Senator Paul said that he can support a compromise on DACA, and he’s been offering one to the Democrats for six months, but has been rejected.
Have a terrific weekend.
