California Highway 1 in the New RR Dawn
Motor the California Central Coast Road in the Rolls-Royce Dawn Drophead Coupe
California Highway 1 is one of the most spectacular roads in the world north from San Luis Obispo through Big Sur and into Carmel.
The drive 75 mile drive through Big Sur is breathtaking and it August it is often top down weather, I 1st drove in our 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS Spyder, and then again in our 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS Daytona Spyder, and then again in our 1991 RR Cornish Drophead, but driving in a closed sports car is also very exciting.
You do not need to run right out to buy a convertible to enjoy the drive.
The new Rolls-Royce Dawn Drophead is 1st new convertible in several years. It has space for 4, a generous boot and a smooth transmission.
Top speed is 155 mph, and the 6.6-liter V12 engine will hit 62 mph in 4.9 secs. With the hood (top) up, the cabin is quiet and secure as with all RR Dropheads. With the hood down it feels like flying in an open cockpit airplane.
Put the Dawn’s precise handling is super at navigating the hairpin turns and steep inclines along the way.
If you leave from Los Angeles by 9:00a it take the better part of the day, and you will reach Carmel/Pebble Beach as the Sun begins to set on the deck of Spy Glass The Inn at Spanish Bay (Pebble Beach), my favorite destination. It will be misty and cool so bring the proper attire.
The RR Dawn is priced at about $350,000 + tax and license.
