Although no change in monetary policy is expected from Thursday’s Bank of England (BoE) announcement fresh jitters are likely for the Pound.
If policymakers demonstrate a greater sense of caution over the economic outlook this may give investors more reason to sell out of the Pound in the near term.
Signs that the BoE expects to see the UK economy come under renewed pressure in the months ahead could spark another bout of investor anxiety.
A softer UK consumer price index reading could equally weigh on the GBP/USD exchange rate, with forecasts pointing towards a negative print on the month.
With inflation still trailing far below the BoE’s 2% target a weak reading here would add to the case for further policy action, further diminishing the appeal of the Pound.
