Pixar and Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Cars 3 dominated the North American box office at the weekend

Cars 3 drove to $53.5-M from 4,256 theaters, enough to beat Wonder Woman. Overseas, Cars 3 debuted to $21.3-M for a global take of $74.8-M
Wonder Woman fell just 30% in the US to $40.8-M for a domestic take of $274.6-M for Warner Bros, a unit of Time Warner (NYSE:TWX) Internationally, Wonder Woman‘s take was $39.5-M for a foreign total of $297.2-M and worldwide box office thake of $571.8-.
Cars 3 received an A CinemaScore. All 18 Pixar films have received some variation of the Top grade. It is also the 16th Pixar movie to open at #1.
The Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me came in at # 3, came in ahead expectations with $27.1-M from 2,471 theaters.
Lionsgate’s Codeblack Films partnered with Lionsgate (NYSE:LGF) on the movie, which was released on what would have been the late iconic rapper’s 46th birthday.
The biopic recieved an A CinemaScore.
Universal’s, a unit of Comcast (NSADAQ:CMCSA) The Mummy followed at # 4 with $13.9-M from 4,034 locations for a 10-day domestic take of $56.6-M through Sunday, and it won the weekend with $53-M from 68 markets for a foreign total of $239.1-M and global box office of $295.6-M
Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) raunchy female comedy Rough Night. The R-rated movie was DOA with $8.1-M from 3,162 theaters.
The femme-centric shark thriller 47 Meters Down, the 1st major title from Byron Allen’s distribution venture Entertainment Studios, grossed $11-< from 2,270 theaters to come in at #5.
