Irish War Cry Favorite for the Belmont Stakes, the Last Triple Crown Race
Irish War Cry has emerged as the betting favorite ahead of Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, as spectators watch for the winner of the final Triple Crown event.
The 149th Belmont Stakes is set to take place on Saturday evening in Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Belmont Stakes is the 3rd event in the Triple Crown, which includes the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
After Always Dreaming took the Kentucky Derby and Cloud Computing won the Preakness Stakes, there’s no chance of a Triple Crown winner the likes of American Pharoah in Y 2015.
Still, the final major racing event of the year is bound to be a great one, and 1 horse is already a clear favorite with odds-makers; Irish War Cry.
According to Westgate Las Vegas, Irish Wary Cry and jockey Rajiv Maragh have the best shot at winning the Belmont Stakes, with 7-2 odds. Horses Epicharis and Lookin at Lee are also favored over the other horses to take the race, with 7-2 or 9-2 odds respectively.
Twelve horses and jockeys are set to compete in the Belmont Stakes each year, where they will race the track in hopes of winning the $800,000 prize. The runner-up earns $280,000, third receives $150,000, fourth gets $100,000 and fifth pulls in $60,000. The final event of the Triple Crown trio, the Belmont Stakes is a 1.5-mile race.
