Australia: S&P/ASX 200 (.AXJO) biggest fall in nearly 6 months
The sharemarket fell to a one-month low on Wednesday as the looming threat of further US tariffs against China weighed on investors.
The S&P/ASX 200 index fell for a fifth consecutive session, down 62.7 points, or 1 per cent, to 6230.4 as the major banks and miners fell.
Against the backdrop of the most positive economic growth figures since 2012, Australian investors positioned themselves defensively on the local sharemarket, concerned that the US could impose further tariffs on China.
The threat of a trade war escalation was felt particularly in the commodities market, with base and precious metal prices falling across the board on Tuesday.
Overall, the bias in prices is: Upwards.

A big black candle occurred. This is bearish, as prices closed significantly lower than they opened. If the candle appears when prices are “high,” it may be the first sign of a top. If it occurs when prices are confronting an overhead resistance area (e.g., a moving average, trendline, or price resistance level), the long black candle adds credibility to the resistance. Similarly, if the candle appears as prices break below a support area, the long black candle confirms the failure of the support area.
During the past 10 bars, there have been 4 white candles and 6 black candles for a net of 2 black candles. During the past 50 bars, there have been 24 white candles and 26 black candles for a net of 2 black candles.
Three black candles occurred in the last three days. Although these candles were not big enough to create three black crows, the steady downward pattern is bearish.
