FLASH: Gold Flat, USD Up, Crude Oil Down, Stocks Flat

Note: China has made unprecedented proposals in talks with the United States on a range of issues including forced technology transfer as the 2 sides work to overcome remaining obstacles to a deal to end their trade dispute, US officials said Wednesday.

In Asia

Gold: Gold Flat to Little Changed

  • Spot gold prices flat at $1,311.29 oz,
  • US gold futures steady at $1,310.10 oz.

Energy: Crude Oil prices of Thursday, extending losses into a 2nd session running, after widely watched data showed a surprising increase in US stocks.

  • ICE Brent Crude Oil futures were at $67.63 bbl at 0045 GMT, -20c, or 0.3%, from Wednesday’s close,
  • NYMEX WTI Crude Oil futures were at $59.18 bbl, -23c, or 0.4 %, from Wednesday’s close.

Prices came under pressure from a rise in U.S. inventories, although analysts pointed to support from efforts by OPEC and non-affiliated allies like Russia to pare output

Equities: MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares sand Japan recouped early losses to be almost flat, same for the Shanghai blue chips.

Japan’s Nikkei fell 1.4%, while E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 were off 0.2%.

Currencies: .DXY trading near 2 week highs and extended gains for a 3rd session running peers, making dollar-denominated metals more expensive for holders of other currencies.

  • GBP/USD: +0.5% to 1.3266
  • USD/CNH: +0.3% to 6.7388
  • USD/JPY: -0.2% to 110.42
