US DHS officials were set to make a plea for a southern border Wall in a White House meeting with congressional leaders Wednesday, when Senator Schumer (D-NY) continuously interrupted the meeting and it was adjourned.
President Trump said that he isopen to working on a way to legal status for young illegal immigrants known as Dreamers.
President Trump invited Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress to the White House for the border security briefing Wednesday afternoon.
Department of Homeland Security officials were to brief the congressional leaders.
The meeting is set for 3:00p in the White House Situation Room, generally used for high-level security concerns, no cell phones allowed.
The Trump Administration asked the US Supreme Court in November to allow the president to end Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
Speaking at the White House, President Trump said Wednesday he was sure the Supreme Court would side with him and that the administration would then be able to make a deal easily on the so-called Dreamers and the Wall.
Democrats oppose the Wall and President Trump’s funding demand.
The visit by Mrs. Pelosi and Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer would be their 1st to the White House since their sharp exchange with President Trump in the Oval Office on 11 December during which the President told them he would be “proud to shut down the government for border security.”
He has since shutdown the government.
President Trump made the border Wall a Key part of his Presidential campaign and said Mexico would pay for it.
