President Trump is now in full campaign mode, he will take no prisoners.
President Trump called Democrats’ impeachment efforts evil and corrupt, a day after the Senate acquitted him, lifting the cloud of impeachment from his Presidency as he heads into the election campaign.
“It was evil, it was corrupt, it was dirty cops, it was leakers and liars,”
President Trump said Thursday in an address from the White House. “This should never happen to another President ever.”
He lifted a copy of the Washington Post with a large headline that said “Trump Acquitted,” drawing applause from his supporters.
President Trump made the remarks in the East Room to a crowd of his staunchest congressional supporters who defended the president throughout his impeachment.
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) were seated in the front row beside Representatives Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
It is clear that the acquittal will add momentum to his 2020 re-election campaign.
President Trump’s strong position has energize his Republican base. His approval rating reached a high of 49% in the latest Gallup poll, with 94% of Republicans approving of his job performance.
President Trump maintains he did “nothing wrong.”
Thursday’s appearance is the President’s 1st major response to his acquittal by the the Senate Wednesday.
