Stock losses have eased slightly today in Hong Kong by midday, following a rough day on Wall Street and in European markets.
At midday, the benchmark Hang Seng Index is down by 63.36 points, or 0.26 percent at 23,887.33. The HSI had fallen by 181.01 points earlier in the morning trading session.
Shares in HSBC (0005) are down by 2.56 perccent at HK$28.55.
The HSI shed 504 points to close at 23,950 yesterday, on main board turnover of HK$114.9 billion.
Alibaba (9988) added 1.6 percent. Xiaomi (1810) picked up 2.18 percent. However, Tencent (0700) fell by 0.1 percent.
The Hang Seng Tech Index gained by 1.55 percent to 7307.05. The SSE Composite Index fell 4.05 points or 0.12 percent. The Shenzhen Stock Exchange Index was up by 34.84 points or 0.26 percent.
HSI serves as a market benchmark that reflects the overall performance of the Hong Kong stock market. Its free float-adjusted mkt-capitalization-weighted stk-mkt index and used to record and monitor daily changes of the largest companies of the market.
