Last week, Alibaba wowed the investment community when it forecast sales growth that implies it could earn $34.3 billion in revenue for its fiscal year, topping the $31.42 billion analysts were expecting. During the company’s investor meeting, Chief Financial Officer Maggie Wu said with the target it is on track to have the largest rise in sales, noting that the revenue jump of 56% last year included revenue from Lazada, the South East Asian ecommerce company. Without that, sales were up in the 44% to 45% range, she said, according to media reports.
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA.N) on Monday said it is launching new sales channels in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan as China’s deep-pocketed e-commerce firms vie for new users in the region.
The new service, Tmall World, will allow overseas Chinese users to buy goods from Alibaba’s Tmall brand-to-consumer retail site, the company said in a statement.
“Alibaba will provide end-to-end solutions including logistics, payment, and localization support catering to each local market’s needs,” the statement said.
