Burning Front is a 6yo chestnut gelding (male) from Australia trained by Darren Weir, who is based at Ballarat. He is sired by the stallion Primus out of the dam She’s a Knockout.

16. Impending (18)

Impending is a 3yo bay colt (male) from Australia trained by Darren Beadman, who is based at Flemington. He is sired by the stallion Lonhro out of the dam Mnemosyne.

15. Derryn (21)

Derryn is a 3yo bay or brown colt (male) from Australia trained by David & B Hayes & T Dabernig, who is based at Flemington. He is sired by the stallion Hinchinbrook out of the dam Munhro.

The 2017 Stradbroke Handicap is a Group I handicap for all horses normally held over a distance of 1400 metres at Eagle Farm Racecourse. In 2017 the Stradbroke Handicap will be run at Doomben over the shorter distance of 1350m.

The $2 million Stradbroke Handicap is the richest feature race of the Brisbane Racing Carnival and what most would agree is the racing highlight of the winter.

The time-honoured Stradbroke Handicap headlines the Brisbane winter carnival, bringing together genuine Group I sprinter-milers.

The combination of a capacity field and handicap conditions has produced some surprising results in recent years.

The average price of the Stradbroke Handicap winner since 2005 is upwards of $16.

The inaugural running of the Stradbroke Handicap took place back in 1890 and was named after Lord Stradbroke who was a relative of Admiral Rous who himself was a creator of the weight-for-age scale. The Stradbroke Handicap is one of the toughest 1,400 metre handicap races in Australia and it consistently attracts a full capacity quality field. Racehorses who are strong milers traditionally perform the best in the Stradbroke Handicap.
