Gold: Gold prices were steady Monday, with the USD subdued after comments from Fed officials showing caution over the global economy, prompting traders to reassess the pace of future US interest rate hikes.

  • Spot gold flat to little changed at $1,220.70 oz at 0417 GMT.
  • U.S. gold futures were down 0.1% at $1,222.3 oz

The possibility that the Fed might hold a Neutral outlook beyond Y 2018, and a slowdown in the global economy amid the ongoing US-China trade spat will keep investors more interested in gold’s safe-haven appeal.

Friday’s move put Palladium within a hair of parity with gold for the 1st time in 16 years.

Silver was down 0.2% to $14.39 oz.

Platinum inched 0.1% lower to $845.20.

Energy: Crude Oil prices suffered their 6th straight week of losses last week, but have found some aid from expectations the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) would cut output.

  • ICE Brent Crude Oil was up 54c at $67.30 bbl.
  • NYMEX WTI Crude Oil gained 70c to $57.16 bbl.

USD: The US Dollar (.DXY) Index, which measures the Buck against a basket of 6 peer currencies, inched about 0.1% higher Monday. It had declined about 0.5% in last Friday’s trading session

Stocks: Equity markets turned mixed in Asia Monday on conflicting signals about the prospects for a truce in the US-China trade dispute, while the Fed’s newly-found concerns over the global economy constrained USD.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS traded either side of flat through a sluggish session. Chinese blue chips .CSI300 manage to add 0.5%, as did Japan’s Nikkei .N225
