Lovers of classic, vintage and antique automobiles have been enjoying another Monterey Classic Car Week.

The festivities included many events presented by, timed by, or sponsored by Rolex , those events are all listed here.

Pebble Beach 2016 Concours D’Elegance, is the most celebrated event of the year held in the US, where the 200+ entrants are invited by Pebble Beach Concours’ management to participate.

Early Sunday morning as the cars started to roll onto the grass, the weather was chilly, foggy and damp.

Then at midday, the Sun broke through the clouds to throw shadows on the fairway and raise the temperature a bit. But by the end of the long day, the Sun had gone away, and the fog returned, as the great classic motorcars made their way off the lawn to be transported back to their home garages across the nation and the world.

This year’s Best of Show 2016 goes to a Prewar 1936 Lancia (pictured above).

The cars line up and are on display on the 18th fairway of the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links. Throughout the day’s event, various classes of cars are judged and in each category and 1 car per category is awarded “First in Class.”

Then those winning cars drive to The Lodge at the 18th Fairway, where they receive their awards and where the judges study the cars one more time to pick 1 winner as Best in Show.

A final 3 nominees are called to The Lodge before the winner is announced. This year the 3 finalists were Pre-WWII classics.

The winning car is judged on historical authenticity, exactness in restoration and top style and design. This is an event that recalls the heritage and history of motorsports and the passion for tradition, elegance and speed.
This year the Best of Show winner is a 1936 Lancia Astura Pinin Farina owned by Richard Mattei of Arizona. The Italian sport cars restoration took 6 years to complete.

Not only does the owner of the car win the Pebble Beach Best of Show award, but also he/she receives a host of other accolades, including a Rolex Steel and Everose (gold) Datejust 41 with a fluted bezel and chocolate brown dial.

Annually the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance show off the world’s finest classic, vintage, and antique cars, but the world’s major automakers exhibition their latest models and concept cars.

This car event has been held since Y 1950, I have been attending since Y 1968.

Have a terrific week.
