Economist and Hedge Fund Manager Shayne Heffernan of www.livetradingnews.com takes a look at one of his favourite places in Thailand, Pattaya
Pattaya’s Most Popular Tours
Sights, sounds and smells? Does it enlighten, enrich and entertain? These are the factors we had to wrestle with when choosing Pattaya’s Top 10 Tours. When it came to the crunch we decided that the best not only offer insight into what makes it one of the most exciting Asian cities – be it culture, history or back-to-nature – but are also, well, fun. And who are we to judge? Simply put, we’ve tried them all, that’s how.

Nong Nooch also offers accommodation at their beautiful resort, from lakeside terraces, 6 star standard luxury villa’s and Thai style living houses. Of course take advantage of all the wonderful Thai luxuries of excellent food, famous friendly service, relaxing massage, swimming, and cycling.
When visiting please be aware that animal abuse has been reported and people have been injured/killed by animals there. Please be careful.
Number 3: Khao Kheow Open Zoo
Khao Kheow forest and wildlife park comprises Khao Kheow and Khao Chompoo wildlife sanctuary, home to Khao Kheow open zoo and eastern Thailand’s ecotourism spot. Here visitors will find all kinds of exciting and educational ecotourism activities for the whole family, including animal safari, after dark safari, conservation education, eco adventure, and other more.

A good way to enjoy and learn about nature is through ecotourism, such as simply taking a trip through the rainforest. Khao Kheow forest and wildlife park, just an hour’s drive from Bangkok, offers visitors the perfect environment to rediscover nature; the lush tropical rainforest of eastern Thailand provides an ideal nature classroom. Through specially organized eco adventure activities, such as trekking and elephant riding, visitors can enjoy learning about nature through active participation.
Visitors will see up close the wonders of the rainforest ecosystem, bursting with biodiversity and a source of water, plant, vegetation, insect and wildlife. Different wildlife species, such as deer, langur, wild rabbit, squirrel, boar, guinea fowl, palm civet, mouse deer, civet, porcupine and wild birds can be seen spread around this jungle habitat.
Number 4: Sanctuary of Truth (Prasat Sut Ja-Tum)

The Sanctuary of Truth is a gigantic wooden construction which covers the area of more than two rais. The top point of the building is about 105 meters high. It was constructed to withstand the wind and sunshine on the seashore at Rachvate Cape, Tumbon Naklea, Amphur Banglamung, Chon Buri Province.

The building was constructed according to ancient Thai ingenuity and every square inch of the building is covered with wooden carve sculpture. The purposes of decoration with wooden carve sculptures are to use art and culture as the reflection of Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. With in this complex, visitors will understand Ancient Life, Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and Common Goal of Life toward Utopia.

The Elephant Village was opened in 1973 as a sanctuary for former working elephants. These elephants, through reasons of injury or ill health, can no longer be used as a part of the backbone of heavy work in the jungles of Thailand. Also because of their diminishing habitat, it is now longer possible to return them to the wild.

The Elephant Village provides then magnificent creatures with a safe haven, where they may live out their lives with dignity and freedom from fear. A visit to the Elephant Village is not only unique experience, but it is also a lifesaver because the fees paid by our visitors contribute to, the very survival of the elephants, both now and in the future.

The Elephant Village is a private company, which is run on a non‑profit making basis and after running expenses have been deducted, all of the proceeds go to feed, pay the medical bills and generally take care of the elephants. It receives neither government support nor sponsorship from any large company or international organization.
Number 6: Pattaya Beaches

Wong Amat Beach and Wong Prachan Beach is connected with one another in Naklua area. Next to the beach there are many accommodations, including hotels, resorts, and private guesthouses, to support tourism. Both Wong Amat and Wong Prachan Beaches are a bit quiet, so it is suitable for any visitors who are looking for non-noisy beach hotel when coming Pattaya.

Wong Amat Beach is 1 kilometer long beach, but it seems like a closed beach because there are only a few streets heading to the beach. However, the gradually slope white beach is a good place to attract visitors to enjoy swimming. Additionally, there are not so many visitors as Pattaya Beach, so it would be an interesting option for family tourists to look after the kids easily.

Wong Prachan Beach is not as white as Pattaya Beach, but the advantage of this beach is that it is a good place to take some rest as the beach is quiet and surround by a lot of trees. Those who came here once usually come back again. From the beach, visitors are also able to view the Sanctuary of Truth (Prasat Satchatam) as a background.
Number 7: Koh Laan

Koh Larn is a wonderful little island in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Larn is located about 7km off the coast of Pattaya Beach of which is about two hours drive south of Bangkok. The Island is about 4km long and about 2km wide and has about a thousand residents most of whom live in the main village called Naban. Most of the people that live here also work and go to school on the island. Any of the everyday necessities are here including a police force and a small medical facility.
There are about six beaches on the island that boast white sand and clear blue water. Koh Larn is a lush green tropical island which has an abundant amount of rain fall each year during monsoon. The terrain is mostly mountainous which is covered in most part with heavy vegetation, jungle if you will. Monkeys naturally inhabit the island as well as other wildlife. Infrastructure here in most part consist of narrow roadways covered with brick pavers.

There are many activities here for visitors to enjoy, some include para sailing, snorkeling, jet ski, banana boat, swimming in tropical waters, and there is even a shooting range located here. Because the island is mountainous there are also some spectacular views for those that like to take a few snapshots.
Koh Larn is also very suited for bicycling and hiking, many bicycling events have been held here. Many movie production companies have used the island for movie shoots. There are many accommodations that will make you feel right at home. Then there are the places to eat many right on the beach, serving up fresh, catch of the day sea food. Many visitors come to stay their entire vacation on Koh Larn and return year after year, kind of a home away from home.
