Thailand Has Completed Drafting Its Interim Charter

Thai military junta leaderArmy Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha Friday night said the drafting of an interim constitution has been completed.

The draft is expected to be promulgated in July, General Prayuth said in his weekly televised address.

A legislative assembly and an interim government will be set up about a month after the interim constitution is enacted, he said.

A reform council is set to take shape about 2 months after the interim charter takes effect and start working from early October, according to the Chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

The reform council is tasked with implementing reforms in all areas including politics, economy, society, environment, energy and the judicial system, General Prayuth said.

A permanent constitution could be promulgated in July 2015, after which an interim government will spend three months organizing elections, he said.
