A tax-incentive program introduced by California announced Tuesday is expected to an increase in on-location filming in Los Angeles.

The program, designed to curb runaway on-location filming in L.A., offers filmmakers up to 25% credit on production expenses and is apparently having a positive effect.

Compared with Q-2 Y 2009, a total of 11,134 permitted production days were tallied with a year-on-year increase of 16%, and commercial production jumped by 34.5% said Film L.A., an agency that coordinates film permits.

According to Film L.A, production of TV dramas dropped 38.2 percent, but reality-TV production surged 47.6% during Q-2.

“We’ve seen dozens of new reality shows filming in this area, we expect a boost in local TV drama and sitcom work,” said Paul Audley, president of Film L.A.

“The program continues to bolster local film production and employment,” added Audley. “Angelenos should find it reassuring to see production returning to Los Angeles, it will create more work for their families and friends.” —Paul A. Ebeling, Jnr. www.livetradingnews.com
