South Korea’s renewable energy exports expand
South Korea’s exports in the renewable energy sector grew in the 1st half by twice the amount of a year ago due to an increase in overseas demand, a government report said.
According to the report by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, exports of solar and wind power components and products rose to US$2.14B during the 1st 6 months of Y 2010.
The latest reading was a sharp growth from a year earlier when the figure stood at around US$1B.
Of the total amount, US$1.8B were absorbed in the solar power generation areas, up 105% from the previous year, while wind power-related shipments expanded 37%.
Meanwhile, the ministry said that 80 local companies in solar and wind power generation businesses have won new orders amounting to US$8.25B during the period, which is 6.8 times the amount marked a year ago. —Paul A. Ebeling, Jnr. www.livetradingnews.com
