Singapore’s Changi Airport has air traffic capability of handling 430,000 aircraft movements each year, a study conducted by UK air traffic service provider UK NATS said on Monday, according to a report by local media Channel NewsAsia.
The key findings means that the city-state’s airport is able to grow air traffic till at least Y 2018 based on the projected average air traffic growth of 5% per year.
According to the data released by the airport, as of October, the flight movements was about 268,000, an annual rise of 8.1%. Local media also said the figure was about 295,000 until November, adding that the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore CAAS)expected the total flight movements this year to exceed 320, 000.
The study considered measures to increase traffic efficiency at the airport, including reducing the time taken for aircraft to depart and reducing scheduled closures of a runway to increase its availability.
