NSA leaker (traitor) Edward Snowden, 33 anni, is likely to be “gifted” to US President Donald Trump by Russian President Vladimir Putin LTN learned Friday.
The information based on an analysis of highly sensitive material on Russian deliberations collected byUS intelligence officials.
The handing over Mr. Snowden is seen as a way for the Russians to build relations with President Trump, the information is “fresh.”
Mr. Snowden’s lawyer, Ben Wizner of the ACLU, said late Friday, that he or his client were not aware of any plans to send Mr. Snowden back to the United States.
The Trump White House declined to comment, but US DOJ officials said that it would welcome the return of Mr. Snowden for prosecution..
He has been charged with violating the US Espionage Act ahd faces charges carrying a minimum of 30 years in federal prison.
President Putin spokesman said that talk about returning Mr. Snowden to the US was “nonsense.” The key word is “was”.
Mr. Snowden has lived in Moscow under political asylum since he leaked thousands of classified documents that he had stolen while working for the National Security Agency as a contractor in Hawaii.
He leaked documents to journalists exposing the NSA’s metadata program, which bulk-collected Americans’ telephone and Internet data.
In January, the Russian government extended Snowden’s temporary residency to Y 2020. He had been living under temporary asylum.
President Trump has labeled Mr. Snowden as “a terrible traitor” charging that he should be executed.
“We can’t allow this guy to go out there and give out all our secrets and also embarrass us at every level,” Trump told Fox News in 2013. “We should get him back and get him back now.”
“I think the proper outcome would be that he would be given a death sentence,” CIA Director Mike Pompeo said.
Senator Tom Cotton (R:AK), an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, said that Mr. Snowden should “rot in jail for the rest of his life.”
A Snowden Deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin will curry a lot of favor with the Trump Administration.
Such an act would signal warmer relations between the US and Russia and be welcomed in the US Halls of Justice.
