As the leading metropolitan race club in Queensland, the Brisbane Racing Club conducts 98 race meetings and hosts over 300,000 patrons each year.
The Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) was formed on 1 July, 2009 – the result of a merger between the Queensland Turf Club (QTC) and Brisbane Turf Club (BTC). The amalgamation of the former two clubs was the first of its kind for the Australian racing industry.
As the leading metropolitan race club in Queensland, the BRC conducts 98 race meetings and hosts over 300,000 patrons each year. Race meetings are conducted at the club’s two racetracks, Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses. Highlights on the racing calendar include the summer (December ) and winter (May, June) carnivals. These racing events feature black type races attracting wide interest from the public, media and industry.
The Brisbane Racing Carnival (held in May/June) in particular showcases the cream of racing champions from Australia and New Zealand. This carnival has become an iconic event on the social calendar for Brisbane and includes the BTC Cup, Doomben Cup, the Doomben 10,000, Queensland Oaks, Queensland Derby, JJ Atkins and the grand final event, AAMI Stradbroke Day. The BRC also hosts many other feature racing events including Exhibition Wednesday and Melbourne Cup Day.
The Brisbane Racing Club launched a concept master plan in 2009. The $1.2 billion self-funded development proposes upgrades to facilities at both Eagle Farm and Doomben racetracks as well as a variety of lifestyle, residential and commercial precincts.
One of the biggest developments in Queensland’s history, the primary focus of the concept master plan is to ensure Brisbane has the country’s finest racing facilities.
