Yoga is no doubt gaining in popularity throughout the world. The reason for this explosion is the health benefits of yoga to its participants. Yoga participants can start with a rigorous workout that builds muscle, while at the same time encourages flexibility. After this more physical portion of the practice, most yoga practices wind down with calming meditation which is a great stress reliever and a wonderful way to increase the benefits of the physical practice.

Before you can get started and really be successful with this exercise, there are a few steps that you are going to need to take. Most importantly you are going to need to figure out just what type you are interested in practicing, because there are quite a few to pick from. Just remember, in order to receive all important health benefits of yoga, first, you have to get started.

One of the most commonly performed types of yoga is the bikram yoga. Like all yoga types bikram yoga has many health benefits. This is also known as hot yoga, and is practiced in a 95-100 degree room which allows for a loosening of tight muscles and profuse sweating, which means that you are going to be able to lose even more weight. Another important health benefit of bikram yoga is the natural detoxification that takes place in the body. Some people are not able to stand the heat, but if you can this is going to be one of the best styles for you to try out.

There is also the ashtanga yoga, which is also very popular and which is a very fast-paced, intense style of yoga. Next to the bikram yoga style this is the most intense of all, and in it a set of series is performed, always in the same order. You will probably want to start off with one of the more basic styles before you attempt at this one, just so you can get more of a feel for the exercise itself before you try performing it at a fast pace. However, the intense ashtanga style provides many health benefits.

These two practices are just two of the many different types of yoga practices. Other practices like vinyassa yoga are also gaining in popularity. Many practitioners combine the various different types of yoga into there own unique practice best suited for their own individual needs. The important thing to remember is there is no right or wrong way to practice yoga. The health benefits of yoga are found in all types of yoga practices. Just getting started can provide for enormous benefits.
