Keeneland Sales Strong Showing at Breeders Cup

Sixty-seven Keeneland sales graduates and 30 horses that raced and/or trained here during the recently concluded Fall Meet headline entries for the 33rd Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday at Santa Anita.

Through 2015, 88 graduates of Keeneland sales have won 95 Breeders’ Cup races. The Fall Meet has produced 40 horses that have won 43 Breeders’ Cup races.

Keeneland sales graduates are among the morning-line favorites in the World Championships’ two marquee events, the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1). Six of the 10 horses entered in the Classic are Keeneland sales graduates, led by Arrogate, a 13½-length winner of the Travers (G1) at Saratoga in his most recent start, and Grade 1 winners Hoppertunity, Keen Ice and Melatonin.

Half of the eight entries in the Distaff are Keeneland sales alumni, including multiple champion and two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Beholder and Grade 1 winners Curalina and I’m a Chatterbox.

Among the 30 horses that raced or trained at Keeneland during the 2016 Fall Meet and are entered in Breeders’ Cup races are the winners of the Fall Meet’s eight “Win and You’re In” races: Darley Alcibiades (G1) winner Dancing Rags, Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix (G2) winner A. P. Indian, Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) winner Miss Temple City, Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) winner Classic Empire, Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) winner Irish Jasper, Juddmonte Spinster (G1) winner I’m a Chatterbox, Dixiana Bourbon (G3) winner Keep Quiet (FR) and JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G3) winner La Coronel.

Two other Fall Meet stakes winners – First Lady (G1) winner Photo Call (IRE) and Woodford (G3) Presented by Keeneland Select winner Mongolian Saturday – also are entered in the Breeders’ Cup.
