Keeneland January Sale

Keeneland has cataloged 1,892 horses for its 59th Horses of All Ages Sale, to be held Jan. 9-13, 2017. The catalog includes 726 broodmares, 147 broodmare prospects, 732 yearlings, 280 horses of racing age and seven stallions and stallion prospects.

The interactive catalog is available online at Keeneland.com. Print catalogs are to be mailed the week of Dec. 19.

“The January Sale traditionally is a solid market for broodmares, broodmare prospects and short yearlings, which we expect will be popular because not all buyers filled their orders when weanlings were offered at the November Breeding Stock Sale,” Keeneland Vice President of Racing and Sales Bob Elliston said. “The January Sale also affords breeders the opportunity to replenish or upgrade their broodmare bands with many quality mares in foal to top stallions and numerous young broodmare prospects from which to choose.”

Yearlings representing 165 of the world’s top sires are cataloged to the 2017 January Sale, including Arch, Awesome Again, Bodemeister, Cairo Prince, Candy Ride (ARG), City Zip, Declaration of War, Dialed In, Distorted Humor, Exceed And Excel (AUS), Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Orb, Pioneerof the Nile, Scat Daddy, Shanghai Bobby, Tapit, Tapizar, The Factor, Uncle Mo, Union Rags, Verrazano and Violence.

Grade 2 winner Mind Your Biscuits and Grade 3 winners Alert Bay and Noholdingback Bear also were purchased as yearlings at the January Sale.
