Industry Minister M.S. Hidayat, at a dinner in the Cambodian capital on Saturday, expressed concern that the Asean Economic Community starting in 2015 would have a similar impact to that of the Asean-China Free Trade Agreement when it went into effect in 2010 and reduced the import tax on cheap Chinese goods to virtually zero.
He admitted the latest agreement had been badly communicated by the government and Indonesian businesses were unprepared.
“I fear it will be ACFTA all over again,” said Hidayat, who at the time of the earlier agreement was chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

Bakrieland Development Tbk PT
Bakrieland Development has reasserted the company’s plan to divest some of the company’s assets. “We’re planning and expecting that the divestment process will be completed by the end of this year,” said Bakrieland head of investor relations Nuzirman Nurdin
One of the non-core business assets to be divested, according to Nuzirman, is the company’s assets in toll roads. Bakrieland, through its subsidiary company Bakrie Toll Road operates one toll road and has been registered as a consortium in the construction of six more.

The country’s leading oil and gas shipper defaulted on several debt instruments earlier this year and has been talking to creditors about restructuring its operations and finances. Its shares were suspended in late-January when it froze payments on its debt, and its market value has collapsed to $236 million – down 90 percent from the shipping boom of early 2008.
Indonesia’s PT Berlian Laju Tanker the world’s third-largest chemical shipper, hopes to restructure its $1.9 billion debt by the year-end and will switch its focus to niche liquid chemical and gas transport, its founder and chairman said in a rare media interview.
