Fillies and Mares Lead the Way at the Saratoga Fall Sale

A quartet of six-figure fillies and mares highlighted this year’s renewal of the Saratoga Fall Sale held Monday, October 17 in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Chester Broman paid top price for Coronation Street (Hip 85), a three-year-old unraced daughter of Street Cry (IRE) who sold for $150,000. Consigned by Sequel New York, Coronation Street is carrying her first foal, by multiple G1 winner Alpha. Out of the G2W/MGSW daughter of Malibu Moon, Sara Louise, Coronation Street is a full sister to multiple winner Mrs. Hudson.

Broman also went to $100,000 for Fingers Crossed (Hip 96), a winning Elusive Quality mare also carrying her first foal, also by Alpha, consigned by Sequel New York. Fingers Crossed is a full sister to stakes winner Ruthless Quality. Her second dam is Champion 3YO Filly and MG1W Ajina.

The top weanling was Hip 200, a gray or roan filly by Into Mischief purchased for $125,000 by Linda Rice, agent from the consignment of Catalyst Bloodstock, agent. The filly is the first foal of stakes-placed winner Roses Plus, and was bred in New York.

Rounding out the top four was Hip 270, a bay filly by The Factor, purchased for $100,000 by Texx Co from the consignment of RFHF Bloodstock, agent for Hidden Lake Farm and Kingsport Farm. The filly, whose second dam Candy Cane (ARG) is a full sister to popular sire Candy Ride (ARG), was also bred in New York.

Overall, 164 horses changed hands for a total of $2,780,600. The average was $16,955 and the median $8,500. The $150,000 sale topper exceeded 2015’s top price by 7.1%. Four horses sold for $100,000 or more, the same as in 2015. Fifteen horses sold for $50,000 or more, up 25.0% from last year.
