Ferrari’s (NYSE:RACE) 70th Anni Marked with 350 Special Edition Supercars
Ferrari will celebrate its 70th anni in Y 2017 with an issue of 350 Special Edition Supercars.
Exact details are expected to be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October, but the announcement was made to 100 premier owners and collectors who were invited to compete in the 2016 Ferrari Cavacade out of Venice, Italy.
These Ferraristi, many of them already owners of some of the rarest and most valuable cars from the iconic manufacturer were told they would have 1st calls on 1 of the Y 2017 Special Editions Supercars.
Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s chief marketing and commercial officer, explained how things would work: “The whole team at Maranello went back through the 70 year history of the company and tried to identify the most iconic cars of the past in the history of the company, the most iconic exteriors, the most iconic interiors. We selected the 70 most iconic cars of the past and this has been declined on the five cars in the model range.
“This means we are going to be producing and delivering 350 unique pieces. Every single car will be unique.”
This would indicate there will be 70 unique versions of the California T convertible, the 488GTB coupe, the 488 Spider, the F12berlinetta coupe and the new GTC4Lusso.
Mr. Galliera said the cars would be produced through the Tailor-Made division and “feature the highest technology and design capability of the company”.
Ferrari Special Editions have become “big hits” throughout the years.
The most recent, the F12tdf Coupe, has reputedly 2X’d in value already despite the fact that the 799 scheduled units are still in build mode.
The demand to be allocated Special Edition Ferraris is so high that Sergio Marchionne, the Ferrari CEO who was also at the Cavalcade closing dinner, found it necessary to smooth the waters. In his speech he said his work with Mr Galliera in making the final determination about who gets what was “probably the most difficult part of what I do”.
“It is painful, it is something I wish I did not have to do but it is required by the brand, and so if there is anyone in this audience here I might have mistreated in this process I apologise upfront. Just keep in mind these limited edition cars will come again and we will make sure we will remedy any wrongdoings at that time.”
He told the audience: “You are the best Ambassadors for the brand, we live to make sure you are happy because without you we are not worth much.”
