Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) at Monza is Magical and Memorable
Ferrari (NYSE:RACE) and Monza are special, says F1 Championship leader Sebastian Vettel ahead of the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
If you are into motorsport and supercars, Ferrari may have been your 1st and only love, that is the case for me.
Whether it is the designs of the cars, the Ferrari Red livery, the long list of Champions to have raced for The Old Man or the scream of the engine, there is something really special about Ferrari.
“How can I describe?” said Mr. Vettel. “Just to sit in a Ferrari. There are a lot of great sports cars around the planet, I don’t know all of them, at least that’s the way I feel and that for me is something unique and it’s similar and it probably describes or answers your questions, or tries to at least.
“It’s the feeling when you step into a Ferrari, when you sit in a Ferrari, I don’t know, you can step into another car but you don’t get the same feeling. When the engine then starts and you have the chance to drive yourself then I think everybody who likes cars and has a passion for racing falls in love with the cars straight away.”
The word Monza conjures images that are as memorable as those in old Ferrari literature.
The old banked curves with drivers on the edges, the grandstands which have hardly changed since the circuit opened decades ago in Y 1922, and the Italian tifosi aka Ferrari racing fans.
Monza is also special to Mr. Vettel as it was at the “Temple of Speed where he won his 1st Grand Prix, taking victory in driving rain for Toro Rosso in Y 2008.
“It’s a special place,” said Mr. Vettel. “It’s many years ago, a long time ago, but still a very strong emotion. There are people inside the team now that I have been working with back then, we had a Ferrari engine in the car with Toro Rosso in those days (2008)
“The whole weekend was magical. Saturday to have the Pole, and to win the race on Sunday the way we did. Pretty amazing memories and when I walked the track this morning there are some pictures coming back.”
“My desire and hunger to win again is greater than ever.”
Ferrari and MercedesAMG are very close and the 2 leaders, Messers Vettel and Hamilton, are well-matched the the race to the title will be something terrific to watch.
Mr. Vettel says Ferrari have nothing to fear on any track and Mr. Hamilton knows it will go down to the wire.
