F1: Mercedes’ Hamilton Wins Australian GP From Pole

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton made the perfect start to the defense of his F1 world championship with one of the most straightforward victories of his career in Sunday’s Australian GP.

It was Mr. Hamilton’s 34th win and his 1st at Melbourne’s Albert Park since his championship year of Y 2008.

Mr. Hamilton led from start to finish, driving well within himself to push team-mate Nico Rosberg into 2nd place, followed by Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), Felipe Massa (Williams), the impressive debut of Felipe Nasr (Sauber) and home town racer, Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull).

The GP race dominated by Mercedes. Red Bull and McLaren look disappointing so it will be up to Ferrari and Williams to make this a competitive GP season.

But apart from Mercedes, the happiest team was probably Sauber, with Felipe Nasr finishing 5th and Marcus Ericsson 8th.

It was an encouraging day for Force India after their recent financial problems, with both their drivers finishing in the points.

There were just 11 finishers, with most of the casualties falling before or at the very start of the race. Jenson Button came 11th and was the only driver to finish out of the points.

The F1 GP racers head to Kuala Lumpur for the Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix (early morning 29 March).

NBCSN airs live and encore race coverage. NBCSN, NBC, CNBC and NBC Sports Live Extra combine to present F1 qualifying, practice, live races and same-day encores throughout the 2015 season.

Have a terrific week.
