Donald Trump, “Immigration Security is National Security”
Monday, Donald Trump praised law enforcement in arresting the New York City bombing suspect while also criticizing the country’s current immigration policies.
Ahmed Khan Rahami, 28 anni, was taken into custody after a shootout with police in Linden, New Jersey. Mr. Rahami is a naturalized American citizen born in Afghanistan.
“How did he get thru the system?”
The comment echoes Donald Trump’s assertions in the past that the country’s intelligence doesn’t know anything about citizens like Mr. Rahami.
“Most incredibly, because to me this is unbelievable, we have no idea who these people are, where they come from,” Trump said recently in Phoenix. “I always say Trojan horse. Watch what’s going to happen, folks. It’s not going to be pretty.”
Mr. Trump also praised law enforcement on the arrest, during which two officers were wounded.
Last week he received an endorsement from the Fraternal Order of Police
Ahmad Rahami’s family was well known in Elizabeth, New Jersey, for frequent skirmishes with neighbors over its fried chicken restaurant.
Mr. Rahami was taken into custody in Linden, New Jersey, about 20 miles outside New York, after an exchange of gunfire with police officers Monday.
Mr. Rahami was not listed on U.S. counterterrorism databases. But he was well known to Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage for the frequent complaints about noise at the family’s restaurant, on a commercial strip of a racially diverse, working-class neighborhood.
Donald Trump said Monday afternoon at a rally in Florida the “Immigration security is National security” calling again for extreme vetting of all visa applicants from suspect countries.
