Chicago Agriculture Commodities Finished Mixed

Chicago Wheat fell Tuesday, with plentiful global supplies giving stiff competition to US exporters, while Corn slid for a 2nd day as a stronger USD weighed on commodities.

Soybean ticked higher, supported by widespread flooding in Malaysia, which is threatening to reduce supplies of rival Palm Oil in the world’s 2nd-largest producer.

Wheat, which jumped to its highest since late May earlier this month on concern over Russian supplies, is giving up gains because of a lack of demand for US wheat.

CBOT Mar wheat fell 0.5% to 6.125, and  Corn gave up 0.2% to 4.12 bu.

Jan Soybeans gained 0.5% to 10.465 bu.

The top Wheat importer, Egypt, was assured by Russia it would receive Wheat booked for January shipment.

Severe monsoon flooding in Malaysia is likely to cause a bigger-than-expected disruption to crude Palm Oil production, which could bolster demand for Soybean Oil.

Rain expected throughout Argentina’s Pampas grain belt over the New Year Holiday should refresh recently planted Soybean and Corn, the country’s top 2 cash crops, a local weather expert said Monday.

US Corn export sales in the wk ended 18 December hit a 10-wk high of 1.7-M/tonnes, above trade forecasts for 500,000 to 800,000 tonnes.

There was additional pressure on grains and oilseeds as a strengthening USD made agriculture commodities expensive for importers holding other currencies.

The USD hangs near a 29-month high Vs. EUR after the dissolution of the Greek parliament raised concern about potential trouble ahead for financial markets.
