Carl’s Jr. and Kate Upton
The current Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model, Kate Upton, a social-media Star since the magazine made her its Swimsuit Cover Girl last week, is the is the Star for the new Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s commercial that launches regionally this Sunday.
The 30-sec advert features Ms. Upton getting warmed up on the new Jalapeño Southwest Patty Melt sitting in a vintage convertible at a Drive-in movie theater.
The ad was filmed in Los Angeles in January on a very cool evening, and Upton was supposed to look like she’s hot. Between takes, the crew covered her with blankets and aimed a space heater at her. “It took a real acting job to look hot,” says Brad Haley, CKE marketing chief, who was at the filming. “She was a trouper.”
While there may be some customers who forget the burger’s name, Puzder says he isn’t concerned. “If someone walks into a restaurant and orders a ‘Kate Upton Burger,’ our cashiers will know what they mean.”
Behind the campaign is the fast-food chain that introduced Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian in ads just before each came to her pop-culture zenith.
It is very savvy business planning to garner a star personality just before she is launched into the stratosphere of the popular culture and placing her in the sensual, burger eating light. Carl’s Jr. is the best in the World at it, terrific!
