AG Jeff Sessions, “Drug Use Will Destroy Your Life’
US Attorney General Jeff Sessions reiterated his position on Marijuana, stating he believes its medicinal properties have been “hyped, maybe too much.”
USAG Session made his remarks after a speech on Justice Department efforts to fight violent crime in Richmond, Virginia Wednesday.
“I think Medical Marijuana has been hyped, maybe too much,” he said, adding that people should “say clearly once again that using drugs will destroy your life.”
AG Sessions also said he is “personally not in favor” of the idea that there is “nothing wrong with” using Marijuana recreationally, saying it is “only slightly less awful” than heroin.
He addressed the divide between federal law, which states that Marijuana is illegal, and state laws legalizing the drug, saying federal law is “not eviscerated because the state ceases to enforce it in that state.”
Last week the USAG that Justice will enforce Marijuana laws in an “appropriate way.”
“Marijuana is against federal law, and that applies in states where they may have repealed their own anti-Marijuana laws,” he said. “So yes, we will enforce law in an appropriate way nationwide. It’s not possible for the federal government to take over everything the local police used to do in a state that’s legalized it.”
